Over 250 representatives of the Romanian energy community gathered at the National Military Club in Bucharest for the 13th edition of the Energynomics Awards 2025 Gala, where 12 awards were presented to companies, projects, and professionals who made their mark in the energy sector this year. Once again, the Energynomics community rewarded the most deserving companies, projects, and personalities of the year in Romania’s energy industry. Secretary of State Cristian Bușoi delivered a message from Energy Minister, and H.E. Evangelia Grammatika, Greece’s ambassador to Romania, outlined the convergence of objectives and actions in the energy field between the two countries. Alexandru Chiriță, CEO of Electrica, and Ondrej Safar, Country Manager of Evryo Romania, also spoke at the opening of the energy gala evening. Bernard Siman, Senior Associate Fellow at the Egmont Institute, delivered a recorded message in which he referred to the emergence of cognitive manipulation based on artificial intelligence as a strategic risk for the energy sector and urged that this threat be taken up as a central theme for action in both the public and private organizatons. This was followed by the presentation of the Energynomics awards to the winners selected by an independent jury, composed of Vasile Iuga, Valorem Business Advisors, Radu Hanga, Bucharest Stock Exchange, Mihai Drăghici, EY Romania, Radu Dudău, Energy Policy Group (EPG), Cristian Nacu, International Finance Corporation (IFC), Mihaela Mihăilescu, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Corneliu Bodea, Romanian Energy Center (CRE), Radu Bădiță, ANRE, Diana Robescu, Faculty of Energy Engineering, Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Varinia Radu, Energynomics.
The evening included a musical performance by Cvartetul Sonora.
Corporate social responsibility: Distribuție Energie Oltenia – Ucenic Electrician
In the 2024–2025 school year, the Ucenic Electrician program strengthened its position as a long-term CSR platform, expanding participation to 300 students, including 31 girls, across seven technological high schools. The core pillars remained unchanged—monthly scholarships, technical kits, and practical workshops focused on communication, teamwork, and safety. New elements included updated STEM rewards, dialogues with company experts, and a second national victory in the “Ucenic Electrician Trophy,” confirming the program’s sustained impact on vocational education and the future workforce of the energy sector. Energy efficiency Awards: Genesis Biopartner – High-efficiency biogas network for circular energy
Genesis Biopartner operates one of Romania’s most efficient models for converting organic waste into renewable energy. The facilities in Filipeștii de Pădure and Cordun generate more than 16 million m³ of biogas annually, producing green electricity for approximately 14,000 households. Internal heat utilisation reduces external demand, while avoiding over 80,000 tCO₂ per year — soon to exceed 165,000 t — confirming the central role of cogeneration and circular economy in the energy transition. Deal of the year: Verbund Wind Power Romania – Acquisition of the 272 MW wind project in Monsson
Verbund’s acquisition of the 272 MW Caraș-Severin wind project signals the return of large-scale wind development in Romania and reinforces the country’s status as a priority market for institutional investors. Acquired in a “ready-to-build” stage with all permits and grid connection secured, the project is expected to generate 569 GWh annually. For Verbund, already operating the 226 MW Casimcea wind farm, this transaction represents a major step in expanding its Romanian portfolio and supports the group’s strategy to increase wind and solar energy to 25% of total generation by 2030. Financing of the year: Electrica – 500 million euros green bond issuance & dual listing
Electrica carried out the largest corporate green financing ever launched in Romania: a 500 million euros green bond issue, oversubscribed 11.5 times and attracting 155 investors from 31 countries, including the EIB. The 5-year bonds, rated BBB- by Fitch, are dual-listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange and the Bucharest Stock Exchange. Proceeds support renewable-generation and storage investments aligned with Electrica’s 2030 objectives of 1,000 MW green capacity and 900 MWh storage. See all nominees »
Best Newcomer: OMV Petrom – The largest electric charging hub in Romania
OMV Petrom inaugurated Romania’s largest fast-charging hub on the A1 motorway, at Miercurea Sibiului: 34 high-power chargers totalling 10 MW. Serving both cars and electric trucks, the infrastructure marks a major step in the nationwide expansion of EV charging networks, aligned with the company’s 2030 strategy. See all nominees »
Manager of the year: Electrica – Alexandru Chiriță
As CEO, Alexandru Chiriță has repositioned Electrica as a central force in Romania’s energy transition. In 2025, he coordinated the landmark €500 million green bond issuance, advanced a 1 GWh storage programme, launched major renewable projects — including Crucea Est — and achieved the highest investment execution rate in the industry (112.5%). Outstanding Career Achievement Award: Florin Bălașiu
Florin Bălașiu has over 40 years of essential contributions to the operation and modernization of the National Energy System, in key roles within DEN and transportation. He has managed critical moments, supported the digitization of the network, and distinguished himself as an active mentor for new generations through CIGRE Romania.
For this essential contribution and lasting impact on Romania’s energy system, for his role in maintaining and modernizing national infrastructure, and for his direct impact on generations of engineers, Florin Bălașiu fully deserves the “Outstanding Career Achievement” award at the Energynomics Awards 2025.
Outstanding development: OMV Petrom – Substantial progress for Neptun Deep
Neptun Deep, Romania’s largest energy project, has made substantial progress since the 2023 FID. With 100 bcm in reserves and 4 billion euros in investment, it is the EU’s biggest gas-development project and remains on schedule for first gas in 2027, reinforcing regional energy security. Green energy achievement of the year: DRI – Romania’s Largest Solar PPA
The power purchase agreement signed with OMV Petrom is the largest solar PPA ever concluded in Romania, combining three contracts over 8.5 years and securing around 100 GWh of clean electricity annually from the Glodeni and Văcărești solar parks. Beyond its scale, the deal signals real market maturity by enabling long-term, fixed-rate corporate offtake and creating a bankable model for major renewable investments. For his appointment and work as vice-president of ACER, a personal achievement that strengthens Romania’s influence in European regulatory decisions. As a promoter of the “PACT” framework, George Niculescu is committed to contributing to greater predictability and consistency in the market, in a public service model with European and regional impact.
Young Energy Professional: Anamaria Iamandi – Rețele Electrice România
Anamaria Iamandi leads the Operational Analysis Service for the Muntenia area, coordinating interruption management, SAIDI/SAIFI performance, power quality assessments and the technical certification of generation units in categories B, C and D. Her work strengthens grid reliability, regulatory compliance and the smooth integration of new producers.
She previously spent eight years at Transelectrica specialising in protection, control and teleprotection on the 400–220 kV grid, contributing to major EU projects such as CROSSBOW, INTERRFACE and CARMEN. With a PhD in Systems Engineering, over 20 scientific publications and recognised expertise in digital substations and synchrophasor systems, she also teaches “Classical and Numerical Protection Systems” at POLITEHNICA. Internationally, she represents Romania in CIGRE NGN and served as Poster Session Chair at CIGRE Paris 2024. See all nominees »

The Romanian Energy Market Annual Report is an initiative of CIGA Energy Advisory in partnership with the Hellenic Association for Energy Economics (HAEE) and with the support of BCR, in cooperation with Energynomics.
