We continue our presentation of the competitors for the Energynomics Awards with the “Best initiative for energy transition award” section. This year’s nominations reflect the scale and diversity of the energy transition in Romania. From nationwide storage and solar projects of hundreds of MW to urban energy communities, circular models, and new network architectures, the proposed initiatives show a market increasingly capable of designing, delivering, and scaling solutions for Romania’s energy future. Only one of them will be awarded at the Gala on December 4, but all will be celebrated.
AJ Brand – Butimanu 1 & 2: Romania’s largest PV park under construction
Butimanu 1 & 2 is Romania’s most ambitious solar investment currently underway: a 297 MW development delivered end-to-end by AJ Brand as full EPC contractor, supported by ERL, LONGi and Huawei. With construction already at 65%, the project will be expanded by an additional ~330 MW in Phase 3. The Butimanu cluster is set to become one of the country’s largest renewable hubs and a significant driver of Romania’s energy transition.
Distribuție Energie Oltenia – Orizont 30: Future energy network program
Orizont 30 is a pioneering programme launched by Distribuție Oltenia to design the future electricity network in areas with high prosumer density. It pilots storage systems, voltage regulators and new transformation points while collecting real-time operational data for national-scale deployment. The project blends technical innovation with organisational transformation — agile teams, co-creation, interdisciplinary collaboration — placing Romania at the forefront of smart grids, local energy communities and dynamic tariffs.
Electrica – National 1 GWh multi-site BESS development program
Electrica has launched one of Romania’s most extensive battery-storage programmes: around 1 GWh deployed across 15 sites. This initiative marks a decisive strategic shift from traditional DSO/supply operations towards flexibility services, grid support and distributed storage — all essential components of the future energy system.
Genesis Biopartner – National biogas network for Romania’s energy transition
Genesis Biopartner is developing one of Romania’s most advanced renewable-energy infrastructures by converting organic waste into green electricity, heat and biofertiliser through a growing network of high-efficiency biogas plants. With two units already operational and two more under development, the company is building the foundation for a 10-facility national platform. Delivering over 85% total efficiency through CHP and fully digitalised monitoring, Genesis provides verifiable decarbonisation and circular-economy benefits while strengthening local energy resilience.
ÎntreVecini – Romania’s first urban energy communities program
ÎntreVecini creates the social and technical foundations for urban prosumers and community energy models in Romania. Through legislative advocacy (including contributions to OUG 59/2025), pilot projects and large-scale community engagement, the programme enabled growth from 1 to 433 block-level prosumers between 2020 and 2025. With 100 active neighbourhood groups and more than 300 circular projects, ÎntreVecini prepares citizens to produce, store, consume and share clean energy locally from 2026 onward.
Prime Sales & Services – Rent the Cube: Battery-as-a-Service for the C&I market
Rent the Cube is a breakthrough service model that removes the main barrier to storage adoption: high upfront CAPEX. Instead of purchasing equipment, commercial and industrial users rent fully Romanian-made battery systems via predictable monthly fees. The service includes installation, 24/7 monitoring and full maintenance. Powered by Prime Batteries Technology’s 2.3 GWh vertical manufacturing platform, the model accelerates renewable integration, boosts energy security and shows how local manufacturing can drive an affordable, scalable transition.
SolaX – SolaX Energy Day: Accelerating renewable adoption through training and partnerships
SolaX advances Romania’s energy transition through education, training and industry cooperation. The twice-monthly SolaX Energy Day series brings together professionals and end-users to explore advanced technologies and best practices. Certification centres enhance installer skills, while strategic partnerships support wider deployment of sustainable solutions. SolaX acts as a catalyst for nationwide renewable adoption.
Vampire Energy – First native-speaking OCPP infrastructure for EV charging
Vampire Energy is a Romanian start-up redefining EV-charging infrastructure through a natively developed OCPP platform built for openness, cost-efficiency and seamless scalability. Supporting smart load balancing, prosumer integration and cleaner mobility, it strengthens Europe’s e-mobility ecosystem and accelerates a fair, future-ready energy transition.
Waldevar – NUFARUL FPV: Romania’s first floating solar hybrid
Developed by Waldevar Energy in partnership with Hidroelectrica, NUFARUL FPV is Romania’s first floating photovoltaic project and one of Europe’s most complex water-based solar installations. The 10 MW pilot integrates floating solar generation with hydro assets, optimises land use and opens the pathway to larger deployments — a new hybrid model that strengthens Romania’s renewable capacity and energy transition.
YEO Technology – Turceni–Măceșu 129 MWp solar energy project
YEO Technology’s 129 MWp Turceni–Măceșu solar project delivers 170–190 GWh of green electricity annually through a fully integrated development-EPC-investment model. The initiative sets a new benchmark for utility-scale renewable project delivery in Romania and contributes directly to national decarbonisation and grid flexibility goals.
