We continue our presentation of the Energynomics Award nominees with the “Outstanding development” section. This category highlights projects and companies that have generated measurable, accelerated, and strategically valuable progress for Romania’s energy system. In 2025, the nominations reflect a rare level of ambition and execution — from ESG transformations and record investments to critical infrastructure development, technological expansions, and the consolidation of entire industries. Only one of them will be awarded at the Gala on December 4, but they all deserve our appreciation!

Distribuție Energie Oltenia – ESG Integration and Sustainability Transformation 2025

Distribuție Energie Oltenia delivered one of the most advanced ESG transformations in Romania’s energy sector. In 2025, the company rebuilt its entire sustainability framework, achieving 99/100 GRESB points and a 5-star rating, reducing GHG emissions by ~48% versus 2019, and receiving Gold Recognition for its audited 2024 Sustainability Report. Using its first double-materiality assessment, DEO updated its 2025–2030 ESG Strategy, introduced a new Climate Adaptation pillar, and defined 13 new IROs with SMART targets — positioning itself as a climate-resilient, transparent and future-ready distribution operator.

    EDPR – Albina PV

In 2025, EDP Renewables inaugurated Albina PV, the company’s largest utility-scale solar plant in Romania. The project marks EDP’s return to commissioning renewable capacities locally after more than a decade and reaffirms a long-term commitment to the Romanian market.

E-INFRA – Outstanding development for strategic energy project

Through Electrogrup, E-INFRA delivered one of the most comprehensive fast-track energy-infrastructure programmes in Romania. The company installed 460 MWh of battery storage in Șotânga and Florești — representing 75% of all operational BESS capacity in the country — and advanced a further 1 GWh now under construction. It launched the 160 MW Câmpia Turzii CCGT plant and completed 11 high-voltage substations (110–400 kV) essential for renewable integration and grid modernisation. Together, these projects strengthen Romania’s flexibility, capacity and long-term energy-transition infrastructure.

Hidroelectrica – Accelerated investment program 2024–2025

Hidroelectrica stands out through an unprecedented acceleration of its investment program, doubling and in some areas tripling annual CAPEX, while diversifying into new technologies and advancing dozens of major projects. The company reinforces national energy security and charts a credible long-term decarbonisation pathway for Romania.

Nuclearelectrica – Strategic expansion of the nuclear industry in Romania

Over the past year, Nuclearelectrica advanced Romania’s nuclear-industry expansion through concrete milestones: launching civil works for the Unit 1 Refurbishment, securing major financing agreements for both Unit 1 and the Cernavodă Units 3 & 4 project, and progressing key technology and EPC partnerships with EDF and other international players. In parallel, the company advanced the national SMR program and expanded nuclear-fuel exports, strengthening Romania’s strategic resilience and long-term low-carbon capacity.

OMV Petrom – Substantial progress for Neptun Deep

Neptun Deep, Romania’s largest energy project, has made substantial progress since the 2023 FID. With 100 bcm in reserves and 4 billion euros in investment, it is the EU’s biggest gas-development project and remains on schedule for first gas in 2027, reinforcing regional energy security.

Siemens Energy Romania – Competence Hub in Bucharest

Siemens Energy Romania’s competence hub in Bucharest has rapidly evolved into a regional engine of growth, recruiting around 1,650 specialists in energy technology, IT and engineering. The hub establishes Romania as a key EMEA centre for energy-transition innovation, digital engineering and global project delivery.

Simtel – The transition from EPC to integrated developer

In 2025, Simtel completed a rapid transformation: strong revenue growth, commissioning of major PV assets, progress on large-scale storage projects, a record pipeline of new contracts and international expansion. The company consolidates its position as an integrated clean-energy developer.

Think Blu Solution – BESS Portfolio

Think Blu delivered an exceptional performance by bringing three large-scale BESS projects — Tulcea, Iernut and Gheorgheni — to ready-to-build status in under nine months. Totaling more than 240 MW and over 1,000 MWh, the projects were developed entirely in-house, from site selection and engineering to permitting, grid studies and investor preparation. In a complex and still-emerging field, Think Blu demonstrates rare end-to-end capability in developing advanced, grid-ready storage assets.

Trina Solar – Căzănești PV Project Romania

Trina Solar completed its first project in Romania, supplying photovoltaic panels and tracker structures for the 23 MWp Căzănești plant. The project marks the global manufacturer’s active entry into the Romanian solar-infrastructure sector.
