We continue our presentation of the competitors for the Energynomics Awards with the “Deal of the year” section  -category supported by DRI. The category dedicated to transactions in the energy industry highlights the projects that changed the market dynamics in 2025: strategic acquisitions, portfolio consolidations, partnerships with systemic impact, and major capital inflows. In a year marked by the return of large investments in renewables and the repositioning of national and international players, the transactions below define the milestones of a new cycle of development in Romania. We will award a prize at the Gala on December 4 to only one of these transactions, but all of them are relevant and deserve to be known!

Electrica – Acquisition of Crucea Power Park

Electrica’s acquisition of Crucea Power Park ranks among the most strategic transactions of 2025. The project includes up to 138 MW of wind capacity and a 60 MWh BESS, fully in “ready-to-build” stage. Securing 54 MW in Romania’s first CfD auction at 77.325 euros per MWh ensures long-term revenue stability. With an approved investment of 253 million euros, the deal significantly expands Electrica’s renewable footprint and accelerates its 2030 strategy, positioning the company as a major contributor to Romania’s green generation portfolio.

    Electrica – Electrica–Romgaz Memorandum

The Electrica–Romgaz Memorandum is one of the year’s most important cooperation agreements, targeting up to 400 MW of greenfield renewable and storage capacity. The partnership combines Electrica’s PV development agility with Romgaz’s financial and operational strength, establishing a new model for large-scale domestic renewable investment. The initiative supports Romania’s 2030 targets, strengthens energy independence, and lays the foundation for scalable clean-energy infrastructure with system-wide benefits.

EnergoBit / VINCI Energies – Acquisition of EnergoBit

The acquisition of EnergoBit by VINCI Energies is a landmark consolidation move in Romania’s energy industry. Integrating a leading local engineering and grid-solutions company into a global infrastructure group brings new capital, advanced technologies, and long-term strategic vision. EnergoBit’s expertise in smart grids, renewables and power systems, combined with VINCI Energies’ international capabilities, transforms Romania into a regional hub for intelligent networks and green-energy engineering. This transaction reshapes the competitive landscape and accelerates the country’s contribution to Europe’s energy transition.

OX2 – Sale of the 96 MW Ansthall Wind Farm

The Ansthall wind farm, sold by OX2 to HELLENiQ Renewables, is one of Romania’s most significant wind deals of 2025. With 15 Vestas turbines and an estimated annual generation of 309 GWh, the project will power 89,000 households and cut nearly 99,000 tons of CO₂ per year. A 12-year virtual PPA with Ahold Delhaize covers over half of future output, ensuring commercial stability. OX2 will deliver the full EPC scope, with commissioning scheduled for 2027. The deal confirms Romania’s maturity as a market for next-generation wind assets.

Renalfa IPP – Acquisition of the 258 MW PV Project in Teleorman

Renalfa’s acquisition of a 258 MW solar project in Teleorman is one of the year’s most notable transactions, opening the path toward integrating up to 1,000 MWh of energy storage. The hybrid-ready project, in an advanced development phase, marks a strategic expansion into flexible renewable assets aligned with the evolution of the balancing market. Renalfa strengthens its position as a regional IPP while contributing to Romania’s grid stability and decarbonisation trajectory.

Verbund Wind Power Romania – Acquisition of the 272 MW Wind Project from Monsson

Verbund’s acquisition of the 272 MW Caraș-Severin wind project signals the return of large-scale wind development in Romania and reinforces the country’s status as a priority market for institutional investors. Acquired in a “ready-to-build” stage with all permits and grid connection secured, the project is expected to generate 569 GWh annually. For Verbund, already operating the 226 MW Casimcea wind farm, this transaction represents a major step in expanding its Romanian portfolio and supports the group’s strategy to increase wind and solar energy to 25% of total generation by 2030.
