Transgaz, the operator of the national natural gas transport system (NTS), a state company controlled by the General Secretariat of the Government (SGG), launched a tender for the award of the contract to build the Ghercești-Jitaru pipeline, part of a wider project that has as the primary purpose to increase the storage, injection and extraction capacity of the Ghercești underground gas storage facility of the Depogaz branch of Romgaz, according to Profit.ro.

The warehouse currently has a total storage capacity of 250 million cubic meters/cycle, with an injection and extraction capacity of 2 million cubic meters/day.

The construction of the pipeline, in conjunction with Depogaz’s on-site works, aims to increase the storage capacity of the Ghercești deposit to 600 million cubic meters per cycle and the injection and extraction capacity to 5 million cubic meters per day.

The total value of the Transgaz investment is estimated at over 230 million lei plus VAT. Offers can be sent until April 20. The future Ghercești-Jitaru pipeline, declared a project of national importance in the field of natural gas by the Government, will have a length of about 90 kilometers and will be able to transport a flow of almost 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
