120 years after the establishment of its first company in Romania, Siemens reaffirms its commitment to innovation and the training of future generations of specialists, through a solid and consistent relationship with the technical academic environment. In an economic context that is increasingly dependent on digital competences, sustainable technologies and adaptability, the company is counting on its partnerships with universities in Bucharest, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca and Iasi as a key driver of its long-term development in Romania.
The history of Siemens in Romania begins in 1905, when the Romanian Electricity Company – Siemens Schuckert was founded and a production workshop was set up in Bucharest. Even in the early years, the collaboration with higher education institutions was already a strategic pillar: in 1906, the Politehnica University of Bucharest received the first Siemens equipment, a symbolic and strategic gesture that announced the company’s development direction – to invest in knowledge, infrastructure and local human capital.
Throughout the following century, Siemens has been involved in the modernization of Romania’s energy and industrial infrastructure, actively contributing to the digital transition in the transport, buildings and industry sectors. At the same time, the company has developed a strong presence in the area of research and development and is committed to training the specialists who will drive this transformation forward.
“Siemens has consistently supported innovation and the development of local talent, and Siemens Romania has continuously invested in education and the strengthening of human capital, awarding scholarships totaling almost 1,900,000 euros. Through them and through close collaborations with academia, we train specialists able to meet the current and future technological challenges”, said Daniel Barciuc, CEO Siemens Romania. He also stressed the importance of the research and development centers in Bucharest, Brasov and Cluj-Napoca, “regional hubs of excellence, which contribute to Romania’s technological positioning at a global level”.
One of the flagship initiatives through which Siemens Romania supports professional training is the Siemens Talents Hub program, which is carried out in the R&D centers in Brasov and Cluj-Napoca. Conceived as a bridge between university and industry, the program offers students access to cutting-edge technologies, mentoring from experts active in the field and internships relevant to their careers. It is not an isolated initiative, but part of a wider strategy of collaboration with prestigious universities such as the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Transilvania University of Brasov, Babeș-Bolyai University and Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, as well as the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi.
The impact of these partnerships is already visible: currently, 25% of employees in Siemens R&D centers come from the Siemens Talents Hub, and almost half of current mentors and trainees started their careers as interns in the same program.
