Eurowind Energy Romania, through its affiliate Teiuș Solar, announces the completion and commissioning of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Teiuș, Alba County. With a capacity of 120 MWh, the system is entering operation following the completion of testing, integration, and verification phases.
The project represents a total investment of €21 million, supported by funding from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
“The completion of the Teiuș BESS marks a significant step in our strategy to contribute to the development of a more flexible and resilient energy grid. In Teiuș, we now have a photovoltaic park backed by 120 MWh of storage capacity, which will absorb surplus energy and supply it to the grid exactly when needed. Our investments in Romania continue; we are preparing to build over 500 MW in the coming years, aiming to install a total of 1 GW in the country by 2030,” says Adrian Dobre, Country Manager of Eurowind Energy Romania.
The system was implemented under a full EPC contract signed with Visual Fan S.A. (Renewable EPC by Allview), valued at over €16.6 million. This contract covered the entire delivery chain—from design and procurement to construction, installation, integration (including SCADA/DMS/EMS systems), testing, and commercial operation authorization. The BESS containers incorporate lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries—a technology frequently selected for large-scale storage projects due to its safety profile and thermal stability. The system features a Battery Management System (BMS) that monitors critical parameters, such as cell voltage and temperature, in real time, alongside advanced safety measures: smoke, temperature, and gas detection sensors, as well as protection and thermal management systems—including liquid cooling for precise temperature control and optimal operational performance.
Active on the local market since 2011, Eurowind Energy Romania develops and operates renewable energy projects with a dedicated local team. The company’s portfolio includes four operational solar parks (Hălchiu, Măgurele, Pufești, and Teiuș), one wind farm (Pecineaga), and a pipeline of approximately 7.5 GW at various stages of development. The company operates 184 MW of capacity in Romania, including 60 MW of battery storage at Teiuș.
