Under the National Programme for Recovery and Resilience (NRRP), through Component C6 – Energy, Subcomponents I4 and I7 for vulnerable households, Sibiu County has recorded a significant mobilisation in terms of accessing funds for the rehabilitation of housing to improve energy efficiency, installation of photovoltaic systems and purchase of batteries for energy storage.

According to a press release, more than 3,000 applications have been submitted at county level during this stage, through 23 eligible companies and entities.

As a result of the evaluation process carried out at the One Stop Shop of Sibiu County Council, 2,545 applications were validated, representing a high percentage of eligibility and an increased interest of the population in disadvantaged areas for the adoption of green energy solutions.

Among the reasons that led to the rejection of the applications were the fact that the applicants belonged to other counties (e.g. Mures), the fact that they were not included in the lists of vulnerable persons issued by the Ministry of European Investments and Projects, the fact that the dwellings were located in areas protected by historical monuments or the poor documentation regarding the ownership of the property.

The RePowerEU programme’s main objective is to combat energy vulnerability and support the transition to clean energy sources for low-income citizens. Under the programme, vouchers of €14,000 each are awarded for home heating efficiency, €5,000 for photovoltaic systems of at least 3 kW and €5,000 for storage batteries of at least 5 kW.

On the topic of green energy, Sibiu County Council ran a public awareness campaign in 2023 and 2024 in almost the entire county, with the aim of better understanding the benefits of renewable energy and its impact on energy efficiency.
