The National Airports Company of Bucharest (CNAB) has signed the contract for the design and execution of the photovoltaic park that will be built in the vicinity of the “Henri Coandă” Bucharest International Airport (AIHCB), as well as for its connection to the airport’s power plant. The photovoltaic plant will have an installed capacity of 12.6 MWp and will be equipped with an energy storage system with a capacity of 17.88 MWh, to be connected to the airport’s 20 kV electrical installation. This represents the first stage of the development of a photovoltaic plant with a total planned capacity of 31.5 MWp, integrated with a 30 MWh energy storage system, within the AIHCB, according to Agenda Construcțiilor.
The value of the contract for design services, technical assistance and execution of the works is 134 million lei (excluding VAT). The construction and installation works will be carried out by the association LSG Building Solutions – Demcar 2000 – LSG Building Solutions GmbH – Institute for Research and Production in Electrotechnics ICPE Electrocond Technologies, together with an extended team of subcontractors: Geocad Services, Întrepreneuria de Studii și Cercetări Energetice, Facility360 HUB, Eninvest Holding Realto and Airsight GmbH.
The duration of the contract is 60 months, of which the term for design and execution is 18 months from the date provided for in the starting order to be issued by the beneficiary. The duration of the warranty period for the executed works is 36 months from the signing of the acceptance report to the completion of the works.
The entire project has an accelerated schedule, with the deadline set for the complete completion and commissioning of the plant being December 2027.
The financing contract for the project was signed at the end of 2025, with the total investment value estimated at 213.83 million lei (including VAT), of which approximately 132 million lei represent eligible expenses, and the rest is covered from the company’s own sources.
The project envisages the construction of a photovoltaic power plant with an installed capacity of 12.60 MW in direct current (DC) and 11.10 MW in alternating current (AC). The installation will include 19,095 monocrystalline photovoltaic panels, each with a nominal power of 660 W, mounted on fixed galvanized metal structures, oriented to the south. The energy produced will be converted through 37 300 kW inverters, with a conversion efficiency of approximately 98.8%.
The project also integrates an energy storage system (BESS) with a capacity of approximately 17.88 MWh, based on Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries, which will allow the storage of energy produced during the day and its use during periods of high consumption or at night. The estimated annual production of the plant is approximately 16,300 MWh, most of which is intended for the airport’s own consumption.
The investment includes, in addition to the installation of panels and electrical equipment, the construction of transformer stations, underground 20 kV power lines for connection to the airport’s power station, as well as the implementation of a digital monitoring and control system for the photovoltaic plant. Related civil works will also be carried out – internal roads, technical platforms, fencing, lighting systems, video surveillance and lightning protection – necessary for the operation of the energy infrastructure.
The general designer is the Colectiv Energy company, from Bârlad.
