Iulian Iancu, former chairman of the Committee on Industries in the Chamber of Deputies, proposes the return to regulated prices for energy and natural gas and says that the VAT reduction is a big mistake.

According to Iancu, we have an exceptional situation, with dramatic repercussions in the economy and we must intervene with an exceptional measure. Iulian Iancu says that price regulation is allowed in the EU treaty.

“You can regulate the price for 6 months and then extend it for another two or three months, during which time you will set up your market and operating mechanisms. Regulated price means capping the final price, and the law can be changed in half an hour. That is, for gas you charge 250 lei per MWh, for energy 340 lei per MWh. This is the price and hence ANRE has the obligation to enforce this price on the manufacturer, carrier, distributor, supplier. It did it for 15 years, why wouldn’t we know how to do it for 6 months?,” he said, according to financialintelligence.ro.

“80% of gas production is indigenous, it is ours. 80% of energy production is ours. There is no reason for prices to rise 7 times, 10 times. No reason! All the arguments that prices have risen in Europe and all over the world have nothing to do with Romania for the reasons I mentioned above. We notice that everything happened in August 2021. Suddenly, overnight, the prices started to increase without any connection with the costs,” Iancu added.
