Iași City Hall has several energy efficiency projects underway, and one of them is encouraging the connection to the centralized system of individual homes, especially in the case of new residential complexes, but also the reconnection of homes that previously gave up this service, said Teodor Poiată, a member of SAMER, energy manager within Tesrom, the company that works with the municipality of Iași to increase energy efficiency at the local level.

The projects in the rehabilitation and expansion of the district heating sector in Iași take place in four stages, the first being started in 2013, and aim to comply with environmental standards regarding emissions into the atmosphere. The fourth stage takes place between 2021 and 2025. The total budget of this project is almost 71 million euros, and the sources of financing are the local budget, the state budget and European funds.

The final results of heating investments consist in the rehabilitation of 48.1 kilometers of the primary transport network of the heating agent and 21 kilometers of secondary distribution networks and the modernization of 80 thermal points. Following these investments, the district heating system in Iași would make an annual energy saving of 81,854 MWh and reduce CO2 emissions by 26,504 tons/year, stated Teodor Poiată, at the conference “Sustainable Communities – Iasi”, organized by Energynomics and SmartiCity.

In the sector of improving the energy consumption of public buildings, the local authorities in Iași have implemented or are currently implementing a total of 120 projects whose costs exceed 20 million euros and have as their final goal an energy saving of 8,644 MWh . These projects have taken place in the last eight years or will take place in the next three years.

Total investments in the residential sector (already made or in preparation) amount to 183.3 million euros and aim to reduce energy consumption by 509,695 MWh per year.
