The first 100% electric boat, with zero emissions, which collects waste in water, was set in motion on Environment Day, in an action to green Lake Tărlung – Săcele, in Brasov County, it is shown in a press release of the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests.

“Romania would need an environment day every day, until all the waste would be recycled and not in the country’s waters, forests or other natural areas. If each of us would take care of every waste we produce, the environment would be much more protected from the harmful effects of plastic and other waste. We launched today for the first time in Romania and in Europe a 100% electric boat designed to collect waste from Romanian waters. This brings innovation in support of environmental protection and is useful in geening lakes with zero emissions. Changing mindsets is as important as technology, and only the two will take us to cities and landscapes that are clean and pleasing to the eye,” said Minister Barna Tanczos.

The boat, named Ebisu, after the Japanese god considered the water protector, is composed of an electric motor powered by Tesla 3 batteries. The novelty is the direct charging from the solar panels, which gives it complete independence in the waste collection process. Ebisu can collect waste of plastic, metal, glass, textiles, with a width of up to 80 cm, which are sorted and then go for recycling.

“We designed this unique boat at European level, from scratch, 100% in Romania. The boat is electric, with zero carbon emissions, this element being an aspect that differentiates it from other existing boats in Europe. Ebisu is a step forward in terms of innovation in this sector and contributes substantially to placing Romania on the map of European countries that are actively involved in the fight for a cleaner and healthier environment,” said Andrei Coşuleanu, founder of Act for Tomorrow.

Greening actions will continue throughout the year 2021, with at least 8 rapid interventions planned in areas with significant waste accumulations. Both lakes and the courses of the great rivers in Romania and their tributaries are targeted.
