Financing of the year – 2022 Energynomics Awards nominations

We are starting to present the 2022 nominations for the Energynomics Awards, with the “Financing of the year” – a category supported by EnergoBit. Four projects were registered. Only one of the projects below will be rewarded at the Gala on December 8, but each company and all the people involved in these projects deserve our respect and the widest promotion. We thank all the companies and personalities who got involved in this effort to draw the image of the Romanian energy industry in 2022 through its successes!

CE Oltenia – The Phoenix Project

CE Oltenia obtained this year financing of almost 900 million euros from the Modernization Fund for the realization of new production capacities: 8 photovoltaic parks and 2 CCGT.

The Restructuring Plan of CE Oltenia includes a component of investments in new electricity production capacities, which aim to bring the company back to viability by 2026. The financing applications were submitted as individual projects in the first session of 2022 and were approved in May 2022, as a 70% percent of the CAPEX value for photovoltaic projects and 50% of the CAPEX value for CCGT projects: photovoltaic parks Rovinari Est, Pinoasa, Bohorelu, SE Isalnita, SE Rovinari, SE Turceni, Tismana 1, Tismana 2, as well as the construction of a 475 MW CCGT in Turceni and an 850 MW CCGT in Ișalnița.

 

Innovation Norway – The energy program for Romania

With 62 million euros, the Energy Program for Romania provides support for projects that will develop and implement activities aiming to increase access to renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy sufficiency/security, and support for training to overcome internal/external barriers for energy efficiency to be implemented. Promoting the Programme led to awareness raising to the public sector, private sector, and civil society in the energy field.

The Energy Programme in Romania consists of five focus areas. The expected long-term program impact is less carbon-intensive energy and increased security of supply in Romania. The program also enables the establishment of new businesses and jobs in the energy field, leading to positive social benefits for local communities.

 

Rompetrol – Financing of modernizations at Petromidia and Vega

The company allocated about 40 million dollars for maintenance works and modernization of the storage capacities in the Petromidia refinery. The project implementation period is 2022-2027 and targets 50 reservoirs located in the Petromidia Năvodari and Vega Ploiești refineries. The works in the reservoir park are part of the operational strategy of the KMGI group, which aims to make production processes more flexible, in total safety and environmental protection conditions. The project will lead to an increase of about 20% in the diesel storage capacity and will allow a more efficient transfer management of finished and semi-finished products.

 

Transelectrica –9 projects financed through the Modernization Fund

The funds obtained by Transelectrica from the Modernization Fund represent the largest financing from European funds obtained by the company over time, respectively 30% of the total funds obtained by Romania from the Modernization Fund.

The financing of 424 million euros, 100% non-refundable, will allow the implementation of 9 investment objectives of particular importance for the development of the national energy infrastructure. The complexity of the projects that will be financed demonstrates the commitment of Transelectrica, a company of national and strategic interest, to the digitization of the electricity transmission network in Romania and the optimization of the operation of the networks it manages, to increase security and the capacity to take over energy production from renewable sources.
