The electric car fleet in Romania has reached a volume of 68,454 vehicles, at this time, of which 1,308 units registered in April of this year alone, up 113% compared to the same period in 2025, according to data published on Monday by one of the main players in the field of electric mobility on the local market.

Data centralized by Lektri.co reveals that, of the total of 42,448 vehicles registered last month in Romania, regardless of engine, electric vehicles represented 3.08%.

At the same time, of the 1,308 electric vehicles registered in circulation, during this period, 1,233 are passenger cars and 75 are electric vans, and after the decrease of the 49 cancellations, the net balance of the month remains at 1,259 electric vehicles. Compared to April 2025, when 612 pure electric cars were registered, April 2026 brings an increase of 113%.

At the cumulative level for 2026, until April 30, 5,248 electric vehicles were registered in Romania, according to Agerpres.

At the top of the ranking of the best-selling electric cars was the Tesla Model 3 (with 165 units), followed by the Tesla Model Y (114 units), BYD Sealion 7 (with 70 units), BYD Dolphin Surf and Hyundai Kona Electric – with 57 units each.

Also in the hierarchy of April 2026 are: Dacia Spring (56 units), Ford Puma Gen-E (38 units), BYD Atto 2 and Renault Zoe (with 27 units each), Audi e-tron (26), Volkswagen ID.4 (with 24 units), BYD Seal and Renault 5 E-Tech Electric (22 units each), MG4 (with 20 units) and Ford Explorer (19).

According to the cited source, the electric car fleet in Romania reached 68,454 vehicles in April of this year, and Dacia maintains its leading position with 18,724 units (27.35% of the total), then Tesla – with 12,151 units (17.75%). Volkswagen – with 5,718 units (8.35%), Renault – with 5,255 units (7.68%) and Hyundai – with 4,322 units (6.31%).

Also, places from 6 to 10 go to brands with a consolidated presence on the local market: Mercedes-Benz (2,888 units), BMW (2,628), Ford (2,419), Nissan (1,372) and BYD (1,249). At the same time, Peugeot (1,135 units), Skoda (1,084), Smart (965), Audi (928) and Volvo (810) complete the first 15 positions of the national electric car fleet.
