Coal imports fell by almost 56% in the first 11 months of 2025

    Romania’s coal production totaled 1.724 million tons of oil equivalent (toe) in the first 11 months of this year, being 2.1% lower (minus 37,600 toe) compared to the same period in 2024, according to data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

    Coal imports were, in the said period, 79,200 toe, down by 99,900 toe (minus 55.8%) compared to the period January – November 2024, according to Agerpres.

    The dynamics of coal production and imports are expected to decrease by 2027, as other energy production capacities are put into operation, to decrease by 11.4% and 24.5%, respectively, according to estimates in the latest Energy Balance Forecast, published by the National Strategy and Forecast Commission (CNSP).

    Thus, according to CNSP, coal production is estimated for 2025 at 1.718 million toe (minus 10.5%), in 2026 at 1.555 million toe (minus 9.5%) and in 2027 at 1.432 million toe (minus 7.9%).
