The Minister of Energy estimates insignificant increases of only 2-5 percent, after the liberalization of the gas market on April 1. He says that natural gas bills will remain stable in 2026, even in the event of international crises, according to RRA.

In a televised interview, he stated that the authorities in our country are prepared for any supply scenario.

“I’ve been taking all the operators since September, I’ve calculated what I can do. There are already offers on the market with a penny higher than the capped price, there are offers at the same price than the capped price, or even lower, because I adjusted things in time.

And I’ve also prepared with option B, the one in which, for any other international reason independent of us, to calculate how, for a year, I will gradually eliminate this cap, so that the average person will no longer feel the same dramatic increase and maybe even the doubling of bills.

For gas, it won’t be the same black scenario as it was for energy, that’s very clear. That I’ve taken care of it. We can look at May, when the bills for April come, and see that the gas price will be the same or with insignificant increases of a maximum of 2-3-5%,” Ivan declared to a TV station.

The Minister of Energy also spoke about establishing a simpler support mechanism for vulnerable consumers by directly deducting the aid from the bill.

In the case of natural gas, it would be 100 lei in the cold season, and for electricity 50 lei.

Bogdan Ivan also said that excise duties on fuels could be reduced once the budget situation improves, to prevent dramatic increases in bills.
