The Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Costel Alexe, announced that Brașov will be the first big city in Romania to have 100% electric public transport, the target for this year being of 75%, respectively 133 electric vehicles.

The Minister of Environment used on Wednesday in Brașov the 14th electric bus out of the 52 financed by the Administration of the Environmental Fund (AFM). The bus covered the first test kilometers before entering the public transport circuit in the city of Brașov, according to News.ro

“Brașov will be the first large city in Romania to have 100% electric public transport. The target for this year is of 75%, which means that, by the end of the year, public transport in Brașov will be based on 133 100% full electric vehicles. I am glad that Brasov gives a strong signal to the whole country and local administrations that can take over this model of good practice. Any city in Romania can do this, especially since yesterday we launched in public debate the guide through which we finance the purchase of electric, hybrid or compressed gas buses and trams, so far, all 13 buses that are already in traffic have covered more than 110,000 km, and the total funding amounts to 109 million lei,” said Minister Costel Alexe.

The Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests has launched for public debate the financing guide for ecological public transport in urban areas. The budget of the program is of 480 million lei, through the Administration of the Environmental Fund. Thus, by accessing this program, the mayors offices will be able to purchase 100% electric means of transport – electric buses, trolleybuses, trams, but also electric-hybrid or compressed natural gas (CNG) buses.
