The National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) and the Ministry of Energy have started an analysis to identify the power plants that are no longer functional and will lose their license, in order not to appear in the official statistics regarding the installed energy capacity of the country, ANRE President Dumitru Chiriţă said on Thursday, at a conference organized by Focus Energetic.

“Romania has theoretically a very large installed capacity, of 24,000 MW, of which is actually available somewhere around 16,000. The other 8,000 MW are, to a large extent, megawatts that no longer exist physically or have not been available for a long time”, said the head of ANRE, according to Agerpres.

He said that 3,800 MW of capacity has already been identified that will lose its license this year.

“Together with the Ministry of Energy we managed to make a first assessment of these capacities, of the 8,000 MW. There are over 3,800 identified by the end of the year we will take the decision on suspending and lifting licenses, so that Romania will not appear on the site The European Commission with information that is not real. These data must be close to reality, because they generate availability for investors to achieve energy capacities, so necessary for Romania and for the region,” said Chiriţă.

The ANRE official said that the first conclusions of the analysis will be published this fall.
