The publishing house of the General Association of Engineers of Romania – AGIR is to publish the book “The Energy Crisis in Romania” by Prof. Dr. Ing. Victor Vaida. The author points out that, in Romania, this price crisis is only a part of a deeper energy crisis, which began immediately after 1990 and has continued step by step until today. The factors at global, European and especially national levels that generated this crisis are presented, as well as the measures taken to limit its effects. Victor Vaida believes that, in Romania, these measures are limited to partial financial support for electricity and gas consumers and do not address the root causes. The author proposes 23 strategic guidelines for the development and safe operation of the energy system and for limiting the effects of the energy crisis.

As is evident from the Table of Contents, the author identifies 14 main causes of the energy crisis in Romania, in extensive radiography of recent history and current realities:

  • Lack of a coherent energy strategy
  • Inefficient functioning of the electricity market
  • How primary energy resources are used
  • Privatization in the energy sector
  • Inadequate energy mix
  • Electricity price structure
  • Electricity costs
  • Security of electricity supply
  • Management of state institutions and companies in the energy sector and the electricity system
  • Meeting commitments to the European Union
  • Shutting down centralized heating plants
  • Reduction of design and research activity in the energy system
  • Reduction of construction-assembly in the energy system
  • Reduction of machine building and electrical engineering activities for energy

Prof. Dr. Ing. Victor Vaida is the 2021 recipient of the “Lifetime Achievement Award” category at the 9th edition of the Energynomics Awards Gala.

The book will have about 220 pages, of which about 80 color pages, in 17×24 cm format, bound, and will cost 40 lei per copy.
