ENGIE customers can now pay their bills via RoPay both online and in customer service centers, through the SoftPOS application used by the company’s representatives. For ING Bank Romania, this is the first integration of RoPay into the SoftPOS application, marking a new step in the expansion of the national instant payment service.

The service includes two components: For online bill payment, customers can use RoPay both from the MyENGIE application and from the dedicated payment page on engie.ro. The payment is confirmed directly in the mobile banking application, without entering the IBAN, card details or saving a payment instrument in the ENGIE platform. At the same time, in ENGIE’s customer service centers, RoPay is integrated into the SoftPOS application used by the company’s representatives. They generate a QR code on the phone corresponding to the payment amount, and the customer scans it from the mobile banking application and confirms the transaction. The payment confirmation is sent instantly to ENGIE, allowing for a quick transaction completion.

“The expansion of RoPay to ENGIE shows how quickly the payment experience can evolve when banking infrastructure, technology and real customer needs meet in the same place. The fact that 8.4 million customers can use RoPay Alias for transfers between individuals and over 6.67 million customers can already use RoPay in e-commerce shows us that there is a solid ground for instant mobile payments. After the implementations in eCommerce and the recurring payments area, we are now taking a new step: we are also activating RoPay in the SoftPOS application, so that instant payments can be accepted more easily at physical points of work,” says Raluca Țintoiu, Head of Wholesale Banking, ING Bank Romania.

The solution offers companies more flexibility in managing payments at physical points of contact with customers, without the exclusive dependence on classic POS terminals.

“We want to offer our customers the simplest, fastest and most secure experiences in their relationship with ENGIE, and expanding payment options is part of this direction. By integrating RoPay both in digital platforms and in our physical work centers, we offer customers a modern way to pay their bills, directly from the mobile banking application, without additional steps. We are happy to collaborate with ING Bank Romania and TRANSFOND to bring this solution closer to our customers and to support the adoption of digital, fast and accessible payment methods”, adds Cristian Tudose, Managing Director B2C – ENGIE Romania. ENGIE Romania thus joins the growing number of merchants adopting RoPay. ING developed these payment solutions together with its clients, including Auchan, Generali, PPC, eMAG and Digi Romania, and similar implementations were also carried out by MedLife and Hidroelectrica, together with their partner banks.
