Transgaz has been invited to present its views on European foreign subsidy policy, according to a letter sent to Transgaz CEO Ion Sterian by lawyer Bruno Lebrun, who specializes in complex and antitrust litigation in EU industries, especially in the banking and energy sectors.

The European Commission recently launched a public consultation on its White Paper “on leveling the playing field in terms of external subsidies.”

This future regulation will have an impact on foreign investment and foreign subsidies in the European Union. The White Paper is open for public consultation until 23 September 2020.

The White Paper proposes measures to restore the right conditions for competition in the EU, where the distortion results from external subsidies. EU or national regulators would have the power to review any situation where external subsidies can distort the EU; distortions caused by foreign subsidies that facilitate the acquisition of EU companies; the effect of foreign subsidies on the conduct of EU public procurement procedures and the effect of external subsidies in the context of EU funding, according to financialintelligence.ro.
