YEO Technology is consolidating Romania as the operational heart of its European expansion, with a strong focus on renewable energy and advanced energy technologies. “At YEO Technology, we continue our global expansion in the field of renewable energy and energy technologies. Romania stands at the heart of this vision in Europe” says Tolunay Yıldız, CEO of YEO Technology.

“Strengthening our presence in the European market through Romania, we remain committed to leading the green transformation with continuous investments. On this journey, guided by our motto ‘We believe it’s possible,’ we have rapidly grown our portfolio in Romania, reaching 893 MWp in total capacity. With this approach, we continue to grow and contribute to Romania’s and European green energy vision not only through our projects, but also as a value-driven partner, making a critical contribution to net-zero carbon goals. At YEO Technology, we aim to reach 1 GW of global installed capacity by 2030. On this journey, Romania will continue to be the driving force of our European growth. Because we believe: It’s possible,” he highlights.

Romania’s projects move from plans to power

YEO’s first European investment, Caracal, is already operational and producing clean energy, while Caracal 2 is under construction and will integrate battery storage to support grid flexibility. In parallel, projects in Bobicești, Turceni–Măceșu, Vâlcea, Dobrun, and Sadova advance the company’s 893 MWp Romanian portfolio, where YEO acts both as EPC and, through its IPP arm Defic Globe, as long-term investor. Internationally, YEO combines its expertise in Solar, Wind, Energy Grids, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and automation with over 400 projects in 30 countries. Strategic partnerships with Shanghai Electric and Scatec confirm its role as a global partner of choice for bankable and sustainable energy projects.

Financing and quality that de-risk execution

In Romania, the main challenges are not engineering, but ensuring quality and securing the right financial structures. “Without robust quality standards and well-structured financing, even technically sound projects risk being delayed,” explains Tolunay Yıldız, CEO of YEO Technology. YEO does not lend money like a bank; instead, the company co-invests and builds financial packages that allow projects to reach financing. Leveraging its status as a listed company on the Turkish Stock Exchange since 2021, with a market capitalization of around 1 billion USD, along with its in-house finance expertise and EPC-F model, YEO combines technical execution with bankable structuring. This approach enables seamless collaboration with development banks and international lenders such as the EBRD, ensuring that renewable and storage projects meet both engineering and financial due diligence. “Without the right financial structure in place, even technically sound projects risk being stalled,” explains Tolunay Yıldız.

Vertical integration: factory supply and the REAPG brand

To shorten supply chains and give Romanian investors more control over performance and timelines, YEO is opening its battery factory in Istanbul, with Phase 1 targeting 5 GWh of containerized LFP systems, Phase 2 expanding to 10 GWh of cell manufacturing, and Phase 3 focused on BESS recycling. “This factory is not just about equipment; it is about credibility, speed, and delivering more efficient systems,” says Tolunay Yıldız. “For Romania, having a nearby supply base means shorter logistics, faster delivery, and a guarantee that all processes can be managed under a single EPC contract with quality assured from design to commissioning.” The systems will be produced under Tier 1 licences and supplied under the new REAPG brand, with configurations of 5 MWh at 0.5C and 3.73 MWh at 1C, enabling flexible dispatch strategies. YEO also welcomes partners and clients to visit the facility, with an open invitation to join the official opening of the BESS factory.

Organization built for delivery — and for growth

Romania is not a branch; it is the European command point. From an initial team of just five engineers, YEO has now expanded to more than 70 engineers in Romania, and the number continues to grow. Strategy, business development, and partnerships run from Bucharest, while the Craiova hub orchestrates engineering and site execution with an expanding roster of local professionals. Tolunay Yıldız emphasizes this dual-hub approach: “We are not here to test the market; we are here to stay. Romania is becoming the backbone of our European operations, and we are expanding our teams accordingly.” Beyond solar, YEO is scaling in wind, power grid, and automation, areas where modernization needs are acute and where YEO’s digital and engineering expertise is directly transferable.

    What to expect next

Over the next 12–18 months, YEO’s delivery calendar in Romania includes finalizing Turceni–Măceșu (≈129 MW) and Caracal 2, accelerating the Scatec 190 MWp project, and advancing the 219 MW project, while integrating BESS on selected assets to support grid stability and market flexibility. As part of its 2030 vision, YEO targets 1 GW of renewable capacity and 1 GWh of storage installed in Romania, aligning with EU energy transition goals. With finance, manufacturing, EPC, and operations aligned, the company’s Romanian platform will continue to scale as a reference point for European execution. Because at YEO, we think it’s possible.
