Hidroelectrica will install storage stations at all the power plants the company has on the river, so that surplus energy can be moved in the evening, said Bogdan Badea, Chairman of the Board/CEO, Hidroelectrica, at a specialized event.
“The current compensation-cap system has moved Romanians’ money from one side to the other, because these compensations are also supported by the state budget. In other words, you don’t see this money on the electricity bill, but you have to cut from children’s merit scholarships, from the administration area. In the end, we took from one pocket, put in another and the problem was not solved. I believe that there are two solutions to setting the energy price in a balanced area. The first solution is a systemic one – and here all the important actors in the energy sector must invest – and Hidroelectrica is doing this, investing primarily in diversification. We have a wind farm in operation today. We are investing a lot in the storage area and we are trying to combine renewable sources, hydro, photovoltaic, floating photovoltaic energy”, mentioned Bogdan Nicolae Badea, quoted by Agerpres.
According to him, there are 7-8 time slots with very low prices and others with exaggerated prices.
“We have 7-8 time slots with negative prices or very low prices anyway. And we have other time slots with exaggerated prices. The key is to move that energy into surplus in the evening. And this is done with storage. We will do this on all the power plants that Hidroelectrica has on the water, because there we cannot hold the water for a very long period of time, as happens in the large reservoirs. We have prepared for winter, as always this year, although hydrology does not help us very much, but we are ready to intervene, as we have always done in the national energy system to cover both consumption peaks and the balancing area”, added Bogdan Badea.
