The Act of Adhesion to the NEST Framework Agreement was signed on Tuesday, in the context of the completion of Romania’s accession process to the Nuclear Education, Skills and Technology (NEST) platform of the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), announced the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu.

“Today I had a working meeting with William D. Magwood IV, the Director General of the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) within the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). On this occasion I signed the Act of Accession to the NEST Framework Agreement, in the context of the completion of Romania’s accession process to the NEA’s Nuclear Education, Skills and Technology (NEST) platform. The NEST platform represents a professional training tool for a new generation of Romanian specialists for the implementation of strategic projects in the nuclear field (the re-engineering of Unit 1, the project Units 3 and 4 CNE Cernavodă and the development of small modular reactors), in order to support the decarbonization process of the energy sector to achieve climate neutrality by 2050,” Popescu wrote on his Facebook page.

He emphasized that the general director of the Nuclear Energy Agency conveyed that he continues to support Romania in the development efforts of our country’s civil nuclear program.

NEA is an intergovernmental agency within the OECD based in Paris, French Republic, which brings together countries from the Americas, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region in a non-political forum dedicated to sharing and disseminating knowledge in the field of nuclear energy. Romania has been a member of NEA since 2017.
