Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca took note of the resignation of Florin Roman from the Government and sent to President Klaus Iohannis the proposal for the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, to ensure the interim mandate of the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization, said the spokesman of the Executive, Dan Cărbunaru.

Florin Roman resigned as Minister of Research after several charges of plagiarism were brought against him.

The central press published information according to which Florin Roman would have attended short-term university studies at a university college in Alba-Iulia and took the graduation exam at Babeş-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca. Thus, Roman obtained a graduation diploma, not a bachelor’s degree from UBB, as it appeared in his CV.

Roman said on Wednesday that he was leaving office “with his head held high”, according to Agerpres.

“I resigned today as Minister, thanking the Prime Minister and the government team. When white turns black, when every word is misinterpreted, when you make material mistakes, but the lynching comes from the first day of office is too much. I do not want that this scandal to affect the activity of the Executive,” Florin Roman wrote on Facebook.
