Romania will register economic growth at the end of this year, given that investments will increase unprecedentedly in the second and third quarters, on the back of projects financed through the PNRR and cohesion policy, interim minister Dragoș Pislaru said on Thursday.
“On May 7, the Minister of Labor told you that we will have economic growth. You will remember this. This year we will have economic growth. It is impossible with the money drawn from the PNRR and the money drawn from cohesion and with the things that have been put on track in these 10 months not to have economic growth at the end of the year. The 1st quarter is another quarter in which the consumption adjustment is felt, but the following quarters, I tell you, investments are booming, effectively, in the 2nd quarter. Booming. Not that they are incrementally larger. Booming. Because you have all the projects now, which in the local style, all end at the end of the period. So, in the 2nd quarter and the 3rd quarter we will have unprecedented investments, record in Romania, which will take over economic growth, as I said last year, by the way,” mentioned Dragoș Pîslaru, quoted by Agerpres.
According to him, Romania is moving from an economic model based on consumption to one based on investments.
“The discussion is about changing the economic growth model. Whenever you move from a pillar, such as the one based on consumption, to a pillar based on investment, you will have a transition period. It is absolutely natural,” the minister said.
According to provisional data published in April by the INS, Romania’s economy grew last year by 0.7% in real terms, compared to 2024, but in the last quarter of 2025 the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was lower by 1.8% compared to the previous quarter.
