Parapet, an EPC contractor for renewable energy projects, and MetaWealth, a European real-asset investment platform, announce the start of construction on a 50 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Dumbrava-Deal, Neamț County. The project marks a step forward in the development of Romania’s energy storage infrastructure and addresses a critical need within the energy system: increasing flexibility in a market where demand for renewable energy continues to rise while supply remains insufficient.

The storage system will integrate 20 BESS units and five power conversion system (PCS) units. The project also includes the construction of a new 20/110 kV high-voltage substation, equipped with a 63 MVA transformer.

Civil works at the site are commencing in parallel with equipment delivery. The energy conversion and grid connection units supplied by Kehua are currently in transit by sea, helping to keep the project on schedule for Commercial Operation Date (COD) in the spring of 2027.

“As photovoltaic and wind power generation capacities continue to grow, the ability to store energy generated during periods of surplus and use it later is becoming essential—both for balancing the energy system and for making more efficient use of renewable energy. For Parapet, involvement in the Dumbrava-Deal project represents a natural progression of our experience in energy infrastructure development and, at the same time, a confirmation of the market’s evolution: shifting from projects focused solely on energy generation to integrated solutions where generation, storage, and grid infrastructure work in tandem,” said Paul Moldovan, Founder of Parapet. “MetaWealth entered the energy infrastructure market in 2025. We identified an opportunity in Romania, and as we analyzed the market in greater detail, we noted a shortage of energy storage capacity. Currently, Romania has an energy storage capacity of approximately 2.31 GWh, with a target of 10 GWh by 2030. MetaWealth is set to contribute 200 MWh through its first two projects. Partnering with PARAPET as the EPC contractor gives us confidence that our assets will be commissioned efficiently. We estimate that the commissioning of BESS 1 will be completed in the spring of 2027,” added Michael Topolinski, founder and CEO of MetaWealth.

Through its involvement in the Dumbrava-Deal project, Parapet is expanding its portfolio of energy storage infrastructure projects and strengthening its position as an EPC partner for developers investing in Romania’s next generation of energy infrastructure. Currently, the company is implementing energy storage units with a total capacity of 514 MWh across three Romanian counties.
