The Ministry of Finance maintains at 25% the temporary reduction in excise duty applicable to standard diesel for the period 16-30 September 2026, following the new bimonthly evaluation provided for by the mechanism established by Law no. 162/2026, according to a press release from the institution.
„The measure continues the intervention applied in the first half of September, when the excise duty reduction was also 25%, and reflects the maintenance of pressures on the fuel market. The mechanism is calibrated according to the evolution of international quotations and pump prices, with the aim of limiting their effects on the population and the economy,” a press release states.
According to the cited source, the 25% reduction represents a decrease of 701.07 lei/1,000 liters, respectively 829.69 lei/ton.
Thus, between September 16-30, 2026, the effective level of excise duty for standard diesel sold on the domestic market will remain at 2,103.22 lei/1,000 liters, respectively 2,489.05 lei/ton.
The analysis for the second half of September indicates a variation in Platts diesel fuel quotations (VPM) of +51.19%, while the variation in the average pump price of standard diesel fuel (VM) is +27.47%.
Based on these indicators and the formula provided by law, the excise duty reduction is maintained at 25% for the period September 16-30, the Ministry of Finance explained.
„The intervention aims to limit the chain propagation effect of fuel costs, especially in transport and logistics, with a direct impact on costs in the economy and on consumer goods prices. The mechanism established by Law no. 162/2026 operates dynamically, by reassessing market indicators every two weeks,” the document also states.
The Ministry of Finance will continue to monitor the evolution of international quotations and pump prices, the institution specifies.
