Prime Minister Luca Niculescu states that the restart of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant could be a matter of days, given the improved flow rate of the Danube following recent rainfall. He thus confirms information obtained by the press from various sources, indicating that production at Cernavodă will most likely resume this month.

“I hope we will have good news in a few days. I am in dialogue with both the Minister (of Energy-Ed.) and the director of Nuclearelectrica. Yes, it is November, it has been raining-as we have seen over the past few days-the flow rate is starting to improve, and we shall see exactly when it is restarted; but I hope it will be a matter of days,” the head of the Government stated to TVR.

Furthermore, he noted that Romania’s gas reserves are currently near the 90% threshold established by the EU. The Prime Minister announced that the National Energy Committee-tasked with ensuring security of supply in this sector-will soon be convened.

“I hope we will have good news soon regarding the Mintia power plant. (…) As for the security of energy and gas supplies this winter, I wouldn’t be overly concerned,” Prime Minister Niculescu emphasized.

According to him, the Government is currently analyzing support measures to assist vulnerable individuals with electricity payments. “Regarding gas bills, the rates are regulated until March of next year. As for electricity, there is a voucher mechanism in place for the most vulnerable individuals-a scheme we intend to extend. We are currently in discussions to determine the scope of these vouchers; we hold daily talks with the Minister of Energy, Mr. Chisăliță, as well as with the Minister of Finance. You may have noted that last week, during the second government meeting, we extended the measures concerning diesel fuel for a few more months,” he added.
