The Romanian Association of Large Energy Consumers (ABIEC) took note of the fact that the Romanian Government established a state aid scheme, based on the European ETS Guide, in force since 2012 and already applied in 12 European states, which provides for the granting of compensations for indirect carbon dioxide emissions, included in the energy price, for economic agents in various fields of activity. The compensations have the role of counteracting the devastating effect of the energy price, which is strongly affected by the rise of the price of carbon certificates and thus reducing the risk of relocation of strategic industries for the European Union, and the funds for the actual compensation come from the revenues obtained from the auctioning of the certificates of greenhouse gas emissions attributed to Romania, not being supported by the rest of the Romanian consumers.

“For the companies reunited within ABIEC, the normative act represents a reparative act and at the same time a welcome mouthful of oxygen, without which the jobs of the employees of these companies and of the employees of their collaborators would have been threatened,” said Marian Năstase, the president of ABIEC.

“The companies from ABIEC are among the most important and disciplined contributors to the state budget, and we hope that the support thus granted will be implemented as soon as possible, so that the efforts and actions of the Romanian Government have the desired efficiency. The fast timetable for approving the aid scheme justifies the Association of the Big Energy Consumers in Romania to be optimistic about taking the necessary steps as quickly as possible to fully implement it. This will help us stay competitive in global markets and keep our employees’ jobs.”
