Greenvolt Next, a Greenvolt Group company specializing in Distributed Generation solutions, is committed to installing 110 MW of renewable energy and aims to create 100 jobs in Romania in the next three years. Greenvolt thus enters the market of medium and large prosumers with distributed generation services.

“We are introducing the energy sharing service (distributed generation – e.n.), which is currently missing from the market, on the Romanian market. Thus, prosumers can benefit from increased consumption efficiency, saving energy,” Joao Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group, told us.

The group also has its own large solar or wind projects under development and will initiate an offer within the local Contracts for Difference (CfD) mechanism, which it considers “sufficiently attractive” through the price threshold offered to investors.

“The energy produced, for example, by a school, through roof panels, during the summer vacation remains unconsumed. Thus, the energy could be sold on the market, through the distribution companies. Thus, there is no need for much investment, we can work with what we have. We target different segments – companies that do not consume everything they produce, office buildings, institutions, at the utility scale,” Joao Manso Neto told us, noting that the Government should more actively support battery storage.

In the next three years, the company has committed to install 110MW of renewable energy in the distributed generation segment alone, which represents a total investment of 27 million euros.

“In order to respond to the growing demands from Romanian companies regarding the production and own consumption of electricity, we have chosen to focus on the development of photovoltaic plants through bilateral contracts (Power Purchase Agreements). Thus, we ensure a supply of long-term with electricity from renewable sources in advantageous economic conditions and without investments and concerns related to the administration, insurance and maintenance of solar panels, at a cost independent of the energy market, by minimizing the risks related to the price of energy,” added Filipe Dias, Country Manager of Greenvolt Next Romania.

The Greenvolt Group entered the country in 2021 through Greenvolt Power, a company focused on large-scale wind, solar and energy storage projects. With a portfolio that includes 302MW and 75MW in wind and solar, respectively, and an active development of battery-based technologies globally, Greenvolt Power is one of the leading players in the European market, having won the capacity auction in Poland, being awarded 1.2GW of capacity for six Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.

The decision to enter Romania, the tenth country in the Group’s expansion plan (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, France, Poland, Ireland, Great Britain, Germany) at the European level in this segment, comes as a result of the awareness of the fundamental role that distributed generation solutions (a resource that allows energy generation near the place of consumption) will play in Romania’s energy transition. Distributed generation has been one of Greenvolt Group’s strategic segments since its foundation. The current geopolitical context makes the entire industry channel its efforts to identify the best solutions in terms of reducing the cost and volatility of electricity, and this will gain more and more importance in the future.

Greenvolt Next Romania proposes a new way of generating and consuming electricity through the use of solar panels, contributing, at the same time, to the energy transition by maximizing energy efficiency and caring for the environment. The company specializes in the design, construction, management and maintenance of customized solutions for photovoltaic systems (roofs, ground, canopies), energy efficiency interventions, solar energy storage and electric mobility.

The company is bringing to market an innovative model that will provide numerous benefits to the end user. Through Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), Greenvolt Next allows companies to facilitate the installation of photovoltaic panels without the need for an initial investment, while ensuring the production of renewable energy at a low and predictable cost for partners.

Greenvolt Group is one of the leading players in the renewable energy sector through several technologies. In addition to producing energy from sustainable biomass forest residues and urban wood waste in Portugal and the UK with Greenvolt Biomass, through Greenvolt Power it acts as a developer of utility-scale wind, solar PV and energy storage projects, operating on many markets in Europe, North America and more recently in Asia with a global portfolio of 8.4 GW. In 2023, the segment reached an installed capacity of 91.5 MWp and accumulated a portfolio of 216.3 MWp by the end of the year, with 66.7 MWp secured for installations through power purchase agreements (PPAs), demonstrating the dedication company for innovative financing in the field of distributed generation.
