Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, announces investments of approximately 3.5 billion euros in the production and transportation of energy and natural gas, negotiated this week in Washington, following discussions with representatives of international financial institutions and high-ranking American officials.

“This week we had meetings at the highest level with the World Bank, the US administration, the Department of Energy, the US EXIM Bank, the State Department, the DFC and MIGA/IFC to attract financing and partnerships for Romania’s most important energy projects.

For nuclear, we made concrete progress: financing of up to 3 billion dollars for the modernization of Unit 1 at Cernavoda; ongoing discussions for the financing of Units 3 and 4, including with the US EXIM Bank. We obtained direct support for projects in the Black Sea, for gas transport infrastructure and for strengthening Romania’s role in the region. In parallel, we secured financing of 495 million dollars for the development of the gas transport network and regional interconnection. Cernavoda Units 3 and 4 mean approximately 19,000 jobs and 33% nuclear energy in national production,” Bogdan Ivan wrote on Saturday, in a Facebook post, according to Agerpres.

In the same context, the Minister of Energy also announced other ongoing investments and measures.

“At the same time, we obtained the OFAC waiver for the Petrotel refinery until October 29, 2026. Petrotel ensures 21% of national production, and with the restart of the refinery we can fully cover our gasoline needs, over 60% of diesel consumption and a significant part of aviation fuel consumption. All these steps have a single goal: more stability, less dependence and more predictable costs for Romanians”, the Minister of Energy emphasized on his social media page.

A ministerial delegation led by the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, is participating this week in the spring meeting of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, in Washington DC, United States of America.
