Intelligent street lighting systems are only the first step in the transformation of urban agglomerations into smart cities. Once these systems are installed, they constitute the skeleton on which smart elements can be added later, such as sensors, cameras or other remote management systems for lighting and traffic, says George Zaharia, Head of Traffic Division, Flash Lighting Services.

“Once such a system is installed, we also prepare the next step, through which the lighting fixtures become the skeleton and basis for the installation of various smart city applications”, said Zaharia, at the conference “Sustainable Communities – Iasi”, organized by Energynomics and SmartiCity.

According to its own data, the company has a coverage of over 12% of the market of Romanian county seat municipalities, respectively 6% of the national smart lighting market (relative to the entire population of Romania). In a population of over 22 million inhabitants, over 56% (or 12.5 million inhabitants) live in the urban environment, being residents in 320 cities.

Zaharia added that Flash Lighting Services is very careful when selecting its material suppliers, because in this day and age, everyone seems to be good at everything.

“In the IoT area, everyone is doing everything, but often they only have a technical sheet of something that could someday become a solution. As integrators, we are always concerned with finding the best solutions that we test before choosing them, regardless of what a developer or inventor promises,” added Zaharia.

At the same time, a major difference in customer interest in efficient and intelligent lighting solutions can be observed in the market.

“Customers are increasingly interested in the efficiency of consumption”, said Zaharia.

The company is based in Bucharest and provides lighting services in Capital, Brașov, Alba Iulia, Sibiu, Târnăveni, Orăștie, Făgăraș, Sf. Gheorghe, Săcele, Craiova, Călărași, Tulcea, Galați, Iași and Botoșani. At the same time, the company is carrying out prospecting for entering the markets of Serbia, Moldova, Germany and Bulgaria.

The conference “Sustainable Communities – Iasi” was organized by Energynomics and SmartiCity with the support of our partners: ABB, Eaton Electric, Enel X, ENGIE Romania, Flash Lighting Services, Geminox, REI Grup.
