The ENGIE Group receives numerous requests for energy consumption efficiency projects, said Alin Nicolae, Head of Energy Efficiency & Green Solutions within ENGIE Romania, at the conference “Sustainable Communities – Iasi”, organized by Energynomics and SmartiCity.

The company offers advice to clients aiming to reduce their energy consumption and, implicitly, their carbon footprint, and carries out such studies together with ENGIE Impact, the international consultant of the French group that creates the decarbonization strategy of companies starting from the business as usual situation and from potential energy efficiency measures, with the aim of reducing electricity and thermal energy consumption. The next step in this process is to model the possible sources to replace the use of conventional energy and the transition to green solutions.

“We have many requests for such projects, from a multitude of clients. It is sometimes quite difficult to move from small to large projects and back, because sometimes small projects require more consultation than large ones”, said Nicolae.

The company is working to implement trigeneration projects in Romania, which provide heating, cooling and hot water for domestic use. Such projects are being developed in several states, but in Romania they are just at the beginning.

ENGIE supports the achievement of the energy transition, by accelerating investments in renewable energies and in local infrastructures in order to achieve, by 2045, climate neutrality for all business lines and for all group activities. The company also aims for 58% of the electricity produced to be from renewable sources and to avoid releasing 45 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. ENGIE has 4,250 employees in Romania and in 2021 it recorded a turnover of 6.6 billion lei.

At the same time, ENGIE tries to attract as many young people as possible to the energy sector and offer them a wide range of activities, as a response to the fact that they get bored quickly. “Perhaps all this notoriety of the energy sector from this period will direct young people towards energy companies. We try to bring as many young people as possible into internship programs and try to be flexible and offer them activities in all areas, both in the office and work in the field, so that they can decide for themselves what their path is. They get bored quickly, many want a mix between fieldwork and office work. Maybe it’s also the fault of the sources of information, the games and other activities they enjoy during their training period – thus, it’s quite complicated”, said Nicolae.

The conference “Sustainable Communities – Iasi” was organized by Energynomics and SmartiCity with the support of our partners: ABB, Eaton Electric, Enel X, ENGIE Romania, Flash Lighting Services, Geminox, REI Grup.
