Consumers will be able to access advice and consultancy on filing a complaint in the energy sector, through the Center for Consumer Protection in the Energy Sector, launched by InfoCons.

“At a time when the subject of electricity and electricity bills is in the daily attention of consumers, InfoCons announces the launch of the Center for Consumer Protection in the Energy Sector. Through this center, consumers have access to advice and consultancy on filing a complaint in the energy sector, as well as useful information about their rights in their relationship with electricity and natural gas suppliers and operators. The initiative responds to a real need: the liberalization of the energy market, changing offers and the complexity of bills often put consumers in a situation of not knowing who to turn to when they encounter a problem,” a press release from InfoCons states.

The Center offers advice on filing a complaint in the field of electricity and natural gas – from how to draft the complaint to the institutions to which it can be sent. It also provides information on consumer rights – how to compare offers, how to change supplier and how to request compliance with the contract, and support in understanding the bill – reading the bill, calculating consumption and costs and using the price comparator.

“Citizens have the right to freely choose their electricity and natural gas supplier, to change the supplier with whom they have a contract and to benefit from the respect of their rights throughout the duration of the contract, both during its execution and at the time of changing supplier. The energy market is competitive, and the informed consumer can make independent decisions in their own interest,” the statement states.

The center also relies on information resources developed by InfoCons together with the Smart Energy Association, including the Consumer Guide for Electricity and Natural Gas. The guide explains how consumers can get a fair price, how to interpret the bill, how to calculate consumption and costs, how to use the price comparator and how to choose the supplier with the best offer – both for electricity and natural gas.

“Those who have energy and a supply contract must know that they can change the company they have a contract with, that they have rights, but also obligations. It is important to read the contracts carefully and to be informed,” said Sorin Mierlea, president of InfoCons.
