The General Director of Gazprom, Alexander Miller, has presented to the Russian President Vladimir Putin the situation and perspectives of gas supplies in 2016. The analysis of data since 2013 until now indicates a reduction of internal gas volumes, in contrast with the increased volume of gas supplied to export. After an advance of 8% in 2015, Gazprom announced a 37.5% increase in exports in the first months of 2016 compared to volumes of January to February 2015.

With an extracted volume of 418.5 billion cubic meters, Gazprom has managed in 2015 to cover Russia’s domestic gas needs, but also to increase the offer for export. The gas provided domestically amounted to 205 billion cubic meters, 12.2 billion cubic meters less than in 2014, when it amounted to 217.2 billion cubic meters. As a result, the company centered on increasing its exports: in 2015 Gazprom sold 159.4 billion cubic meters to former CIS countries and Europe, up by 11.8 billion cubic meters (+8%) compared to 2014.

Alexander Miller said that “considering the export trends in recent years, this development is supported by numbers from the beginning of year 2016, when export deliveries have already risen by 37.5%.”

Miller also reported to the President that in 2015 Germany has operated a record purchase of gas from Russia – 43.5 billion cubic meters, up by 6 billion cubic meters compared to 2014. “This year, we see an even more important increase of gas supplies to Germany and other European countries. From the beginning, we observe significant increase of gas deliveries to Germany – 44%, Italy – 42%, France – 73%, Austria – 52%.”

In 2015, the nominal increase in exports of Russian gas was of 11.8 billion cubic meters. The first two months of 2016 have already brought an advance of 7.5 billion cubic meters, said Miller.
