The plight of energy producers from renewable sources in Romania, the need to simplify the existing support scheme, namely the amendment to Law 220/2008 were the main topics of discussion between Maroš Šefčovič, European Commission Vice-President for Energy Union and representatives of the Employers Organization of the Energy Producers from Renewable Sources of Romania – PATRES.

“We are extremely honored that we had the opportunity to present Mr. Maroš Šefčovič the serious problems encountered by producers of E-SRE in their activity. During the meeting, we presented PATRES opinion on the current legislative framework, barriers in the market for energy generated from renewable sources and our proposals for rescue and development of this sector”, said Viorel Lefter, PhD., President of PATRES.

The renewable energy producers in Romania are facing an acute shortage of liquidities, their income being reduced dramatically, says the organization. They are affected by the increase of costs for balancing, trading and various taxes, say PATRES representatives, adding that, as far as they know, 30% of producers are exposed to insolvency or bankruptcy as of this year.

“PATRES proposes the amending of Law no. 220/2008 and the introduction of a premium system of feed-in, instead of the existing system of green certificates. We recognize the need of not to increase too much the impact on the consumer and we indicate a premium feed-in to the minimum price of green certificates, which would constitute a basis for the smooth functioning of the energy market in a transparent and non-discriminatory climate”, said Martin Moise, First Vice-President of PATRES.

The European Commission Vice President for the Energy Union encouraged PATRES to work actively in the working groups of the Ministry of Energy and Parliament to engage intensively in the implementation of the Energy Strategy of Romania, further mentions the press release of this association.

The European official assured PATRES that he will discuss with Prime Minister Dacian Cioloș and the Minister of Energy Victor Grigorescu to inform himself how things go along, what results have been achieved, with the suggestion to find joint solutions with the market participants, respectively regulations in this area, reports the press release issued by PATRES.
