Greenvolt Group, through Greenvolt Power-a major developer of utility-scale wind, solar, and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects-has reached an agreement to sell two battery energy storage projects in Poland to A&R Investments. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, subject to the fulfillment of customary conditions applicable to such transactions.
A&R Investments is a Malta-based investment vehicle that oversees, controls, and manages a diversified portfolio of private and public investments, both directly and through external fund managers.
The projects covered by the agreement are standalone battery energy storage systems located in Ełk and Turośń Kościelna, both in northeastern Poland. Each project has a power capacity of 200 MW and an energy storage capacity of 800 MWh, allowing for discharge at full power for approximately four hours. Both projects reached completion in the third quarter of 2026 and have secured the necessary operational permits, contributing to increased flexibility within the Polish power system and the integration of energy from renewable sources. The projects in Ełk and Turośń each have 17-year contracts in the Polish market, commencing in 2028. Under these agreements, each asset receives a fixed payment for making 85% of its nominal capacity available to the system. Both projects also benefit from 10-year tolling agreements, through which the batteries will be optimized and their flexibility monetized in the electricity markets.
“We hold one of the largest portfolios of battery energy storage system (BESS) projects under development in Europe; we have built solid expertise in developing these assets and will continue to invest in this sector. The need for storage capacity and flexibility is growing rapidly, and this transaction confirms that high-quality BESS projects address a clear market need and attract investor interest,” stated João Manso Neto, CEO of the Greenvolt Group.
“These projects represent a significant addition to our portfolio and an opportunity to invest in utility-scale battery energy storage assets in Poland. Their scale and the role they play in providing flexibility to the power system make them valuable in a market where storage is becoming increasingly important,” said Christian Buhagiar, a director at A&R Investments. “The projects in Ełk and Turośń demonstrate Greenvolt Power’s capability to take complex, large-scale battery energy storage projects from the development stage through to completion. Poland is a strategic market for us and a key driver of our growth in Central Europe. We will continue to develop projects that address the evolving needs of the energy system,” stated Weronika Nowak, CEO of Greenvolt Power.
Greenvolt Power has a portfolio of BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) projects under development with a capacity of approximately 4.6 GW across the markets where it operates. The sale of the projects in Ełk and Turośń is part of Greenvolt’s asset rotation strategy, which entails selling approximately 70-80% of the projects developed in-house. This strategy allows the Group to realize value from investments made in development activities and to reinvest the capital into new opportunities.
