Executive Director of the French company GDF Suez, Gerard Mestrallet, estimated that this winter should not be problems with Russian gas supplies to Europe, TASS informs.

“We do not exclude that between Russia and Ukraine could be problems (in this respect), but on Russian gas supplies to Western Europe should not be a problem,” said Mestrallet for the Financial Times, quoted by Russian press. “We need Russian gas, and Russia – the funds for energy resources,” he said.

According to Mestrallet, Europe is better prepared now than a few years ago to cope with disruptions in energy supplies. This relates to the creation of new infrastructure, such as Nord Stream pipeline linking Russia and Germany via the Baltic Sea. In addition, GDF Suez is ready to use landfill gas across Europe, said its chief executive, quoted by Agerpres.

Russia is one of the main suppliers of gas to GDF Suez, whose share of Russian gas in total purchases under long-term contracts is of 17%.
