Heads of state and government in the main gas-exporting countries sent a message of calm to markets in Qatar on Tuesday, pledging to secure supplies, and a call for dialogue between producers and consumers for the benefit of energy security, according to EFE.

“We reiterate our insistence on strengthening global energy security as reliable suppliers for meeting growing energy requirements,” reads the final release of the Sixth Meeting of the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (FPEG) held in Doha.

The so-called Doha Declaration, read by Qatari Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi, stressed that to ensure continuity of supply requires, among other things, cooperation between producers and consumers, increased investment, development of production infrastructure and use of advanced technologies.

“We must work for reasonable prices and there must be security of demand and transparent, non-discriminatory frameworks between the different energy consumption policies in transit countries,” he added, according to Agerpres.

The official also called for “supporting the fundamental role of long-term gas contracts as well as the price of gas based on the indexation of oil and petroleum products to ensure stable investment in the development of natural gas resources.”

Iran’s Ebrahim Raisi and Algerian President Abdelmajid Teboune also attended the sixth Doha meeting in Doha since 2001, while Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov attended on behalf of the country’s president, Vladimir Putin.

Although Kaabi said the meeting “did not discuss the crisis in Ukraine”, being a “technical forum”, Shulginov assured during his speech that Russia was committed to complying with contracts with European countries and would continue to export natural gas ”without interruptions,” writes EFE.
