Econergy has connected its 59 MW Iancu Jianu solar project in Romania to the electricity grid and has started the gradual ramp-up of power delivery. The company is also developing a 35 MW/70 MWh battery energy storage system at the same site, scheduled for grid connection in the second quarter of 2027.
Iancu Jianu is Econergy’s fifth project to be connected in Romania. Following the connection, the company says its Romanian portfolio includes 743 MW of connected and ready-to-connect capacity, with a further 861 MW currently under construction.
The battery storage system is being developed as part of Econergy’s strategy to hybridise its Romanian solar portfolio by co-locating storage with existing photovoltaic generation.
According to the company, the BESS will create additional revenue opportunities from grid balancing services, energy price arbitrage and peak demand response. Econergy expects the combination of solar generation and storage to increase the economic value of the Iancu Jianu project and diversify its revenue sources.
The company also sees storage as a central part of its wider European growth strategy, including as a way to improve the financing profile of projects in its pipeline.
Econergy’s Iancu Jianu project adds to their already solid portfolio in Romania, which includes Ratesti, with approximately 155 MW, the 92 MW Parau project, the 55 MW Scurtu Mare plant and the 87 MW Oradea project. Econergy is also developing other Romanian assets, including the 60 MW Ovidiu project, which secured 31 million euros in project financing in March 2026, and the 310 MW DC Parau 2 project, part of which secured a contract in Romania’s first CfD auction.
Econergy Renewable Energy, listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, develops and operates solar, wind and energy storage projects in Romania, the UK, Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain and Greece. The company reports a European project pipeline of more than 12.5 GW.
