Investing in energy is not just about non-reimbursable European funds. They mean private capital and commercial loans, resources that get the economy moving. This is the message delivered by Cătălin Bojoga, Senior Relationship Manager – Energy & Utilities at BCR, at the conference “Energy Transition Cluj-Napoca 2025”, organized by Energynomics together with the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry – AHK Romania.
“Progress is made with substantial investment – non-reimbursable European money, own resources, private capital and commercial loans. All this is, in fact, moving the economy,” said Cătălin Bojoga. According to him, funding for the energy sector creates a knock-on effect on other sectors and contributes to strengthening Romania’s economic resilience.
BCR is currently the most active bank financier in the sector, with over RON 7.5 billion in corporate loans in the first half of the year, of which 35% dedicated to investments. Of this amount, 1.6 billion lei (about €320 million) went to green projects, and almost 80% of new mortgages were for energy-efficient housing.
Recently financed projects illustrate the real scale of the transformation underway: €35 million went to Simetrica for a new energy-efficient factory and photovoltaic park; €84 million supported an energy-efficient production line at Ford Otosan; and €25 million went to a large retailer for solar panels, charging stations and modern equipment. In parallel, the bank supports photovoltaic and wind farms and large industrial manufacturers with hundreds of millions of euros.
An important part of Cătălin Bojoga’s speech focused on prosumers. “We have three categories of prosumers – public, private and business – and our company has focused to a large extent on them,” he said. In his opinion, the calls for financing for photovoltaic panels and batteries have created a wave of investment that BCR is supporting with dedicated products, such as the energy efficiency loan or the prosumers’ loan.
Referring to the quality of the installers, Bojoga added: “The EPCs we work with are carefully vetted. It is a prerequisite for qualification and we only work with companies with experience and a solid reputation. Only with them do we sign.”

For BCR, investing in energy has a dual role: it accelerates the green transition and creates added economic value by mobilizing private capital and commercial loans.
