The general manager of Electrica, Corina Popescu, points out that on the electricity distribution segment things are still showing a minus and that a balance must be found in the sector, as at the moment it is lost.

“If on the supply side things look a little better, on the distribution segment, at least in our case, it still having a minus. This can obviously lead to a worsening, and we have an ongoing discussion with the banks, we need loans to continue our investment plans. The Electrica Group being listed on the stock exchange even suffered a downgrade to the country rating, as we are one notch above the country rating, precisely due to these interventions in the public sector. So it was not theoretically a downgrade, but an industry-wide problem. Banks have already informed us that the risk committees within the banks have issued a warning, so they have also had these revaluations by the rating agencies with the whole sector,” said Corina Popescu, according to Agerpres.

“It’s clear that things can be improved in this segment. As I said, we should not build our own barriers. The distribution sector and Transelectrica need investments in their respective networks. I was really making a joke: I’m glad that there are producers who will produce electricity, what good is it that they will no longer have the networks to supply consumers and they will stay with that production there as much as they want. That is why I believe that balance must be found in the sector. At the moment, this balance is lost,” Corina Popescu also said.

She stressed that the energy system is one that needs to live in balance and that she has encountered such major imbalances in the 1990s.

“It is sad that today we have the same imbalances that can lead to wrong decisions in terms of investments. I am not a specialist in state guarantees. I believe and hope that things can be resolved. State guarantees meant nothing to us, but the door open in talks with banks that have already set the energy sector back at the level of a risky sector,” said Corina Popescu.
