About 300 employees of Complexul Energetic Oltenia (CEO) protested on Wednesday in front of the company’s headquarters in the municipality of Târgu Jiu. People are dissatisfied with the fact that approximately 1,500 employees whose employment contracts were concluded for a fixed period will remain without jobs from the beginning of April, writes Financialintelligence. At the same time, the CEO directorate submitted a new reorganization, restructuring and financial recovery plan for the Supervisory Board’s approval and for the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders’ meeting on March 12.

“A plan came out overnight in which 1,476 employees will be fired and you realize that this creates a very big dissatisfaction among all employees. … Since April 1 (the 1,476 fixed-term contracts expire, editor’s note), they have also found a fantastic moment, before the Easter holidays, a moment full of cynicism, lacking empathy. I think there are around 300 people protesting at the moment,” Gabriel Căldăruşe, president of the Mine Energie Oltenia Union (SMEO), told Agerpres. According to company representatives, on February 25 the company registered around 7,800 employees, of which 1,945 are employees with individual fixed-term employment contracts.

Following the miners’ protests, the CEO management announced that a personnel analysis will be carried out in the coming period at the level of each subunit of the Oltenia Energy Complex (CEO), in the areas where activity is restricted.
