The Canadian government will contribute 3 billion Canadian dollars to the construction of units 3 and 4 at Cernavodă, claims the Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja.

“Today in Ottawa we received from the counterpart Canadian minister, Jonathan Wilkinson, the letter of interest regarding the financing of the project of units 3 and 4 from Cernavodă, in a remarkable event. The Romanian-Canadian collaboration for the civil nuclear program dates back to the 70s, and today’s step brings us closer to the dream of completing the most important Romanian energy project.

“With the support of all institutional levels of the Romanian state, we have all the prerequisites to witness the commissioning of these new capacities in 2031-2032. Moreover, we have chances to put the heavy water plant back into operation with Canadian support, a project started by Minister Virgil Popescu, and to produce medical isotopes for the treatment of cancer, for a constantly growing market,” said Burduja.

“Thank you to the Canadian government and everyone who contributed to this success. I thank the teams of the Ministry of Energy and Nuclearelectrica, ARICE – through President Rareș Burlacu and Mr. Ambassador Mănoiu and the team from the Romanian Embassy in Ottawa.

“Of course, these projects cannot be done overnight. They are not for the next election, they are for the next generations. I will do everything possible to speed up the Romanian civil nuclear program. It is the solution to have safe, clean energy for all Romanians at a fair price”, added the Minister of Energy.
