The project of small modular reactors (SMR) in Romania will benefit from the highest level of nuclear safety and technological robustness, stated the general director of the Nuclearelectrica company, Cosmin Ghiță, after the visit made to the headquarters of Doosan Enerbility in Changwon, South Korea, as part of the delegation led by the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis.

According to a company release, the visit to Doosan Enerbility was aimed at researching Doosan’s advanced SMR production capabilities. It also had in mind the development of bilateral relations of collaboration and technological exchange between Romania and its strategic partners. During this visit, tours of the forging and nuclear workshops were conducted and facilities vital to SMR production were reviewed.

“The SMR project in Romania will benefit from the highest level of nuclear security and technological robustness. Doosan Enerbility, with its internationally recognized experience in the production of nuclear equipment and advances in SMR technologies, contributes significantly to ensuring that, until at the end of the 2030s, Romania will become a point of reference in the implementation of advanced nuclear technologies and efficient long-term clean energy projects,” said Cosmin Ghiță.

He also highlighted the benefits of collaboration for the Romanian and Korean nuclear industries, including accelerating cooperation and developing the value chain.
