Romania is prepared to protect Neptun Deep against drone attacks, having demonstrated an effective response so far to the provocations and incidents that tested its reaction capabilities, according to Cristian Bușoi, State Secretary at the Ministry of Energy.
When asked at an industry event whether Romania is institutionally, militarily, and legally prepared to protect Neptun Deep against maritime and aerial drone attacks, he noted that there is close cooperation among the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Energy, the two companies developing Neptun Deep, and Romania’s specialized intelligence agencies to prepare for any scenario that might threaten the project.
“Of course, this is an extremely important question, and in the current context, we must be prepared for anything. Obviously, it is not for us here to provide the most appropriate answer, but rather for representatives of the Ministry of Defence. What I can tell you is that there is a dialogue and close cooperation among the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Energy, the two companies developing Neptun Deep, and Romania’s specialized intelligence agencies to prepare for and be ready for any scenario that could threaten Neptun Deep,” Bușoi emphasized, as cited by Agerpres.
In this context, he noted that Romania has responded well so far to the provocations, threats, and incidents that have tested the country’s reaction capabilities. “And, once again—while I am not the person to give a definitive answer—I can tell you that I believe we are prepared; this is evidenced by how well Romania has responded so far to the provocations, threats, and incidents that tested its response capabilities—such as the drones, some of which were shot down while others were monitored, with the best decision—in my view—being taken once it was clear there was no danger to the civilian population or critical infrastructure. Of course, there are public debates, and these cases can certainly be discussed at length. I believe that, regarding the Neptun Deep project as well, the Romanian Armed Forces and the country’s institutions are fully capable of successfully handling any threat,” he said.
