ATMOCE enters the commercial battery storage market

The commercial battery storage market is seeing a new offering built on a residential approach: small modules that can be added gradually, rather than a single industrial cabinet. ATMOCE unveiled the solution at BattBank Day, an event held recently in Bucharest, drawing on the same architecture that the company says has underpinned its success in the residential sector over the past year.

“We want to bring this innovation not only into homes, but also to our enterprise and business customers,” said Bob Tao, CEO Eastern Europe at ATMOCE, addressing around 60 representatives of local partners with whom the company says it has built its growth over the past year.

Moving from a home to an office building or an industrial facility is not straightforward: loads, available space and risks all change. ATMOCE presented two main arguments for making the transition: safety and operational flexibility.

The first consideration is voltage. “We offer a low-voltage solution, below 60 volts, for both microinverters and batteries, a much safer option for the end user,” said Cătălin Ciobanu, Regional Product Manager at ATMOCE. The second is modularity. “If you have a problem with a single module, the storage capacity available in the rest of the stack is not affected,” Ciobanu explained, contrasting the design with a conventional cabinet that houses the entire storage capacity in a single enclosure. For the customer, this means that a fault does not shut down the entire system.

Tao turned the argument into a purchasing criterion. “We should not have to choose between cheap and safe,” he said. The real issue is different: “What matters is the kind of equipment you have on your roof, in your home or in the building where your team works.”

Another set of arguments concerns electricity consumption and project implementation. Tao presented phase-by-phase control as a significant difference from conventional solutions: “Each phase is controlled independently, so the system can discharge on one phase and charge on another.” For businesses with uneven loads across phases, he explained, this means a system that does not treat all three phases as a single unit.

Ciobanu also addressed installation time. “Commissioning is very fast, a maximum of 30 minutes, including all updates,” he said, clarifying that the estimate refers to commissioning an entire project.

The space required for installation is another key consideration. “With our solutions, the footprint can be as small as 0.8 square metres for 224 kW,” Ciobanu noted. For a commercial building with limited technical space, a small footprint is a practical advantage, not merely a figure on a specification sheet.

One example of implementation is the 400 kWh battery storage system installed in Oradea. The ATMOCE installation comprises 25 MS-16K-U battery units, arranged in four clusters of 6, 6, 6 and 7 units. According to the company, the entire storage system occupies approximately 1.7 square metres.

The project also illustrates how storage can be added to an existing photovoltaic installation without replacing the original equipment. ATMOCE integrated the batteries into a system using Huawei inverters and implemented its Matrix Phase Control function to manage charging and discharging across individual phases according to consumption. According to the company, the solution can increase self-consumption and reduce electricity costs while also providing backup power in the event of grid outages. Continuity of electricity supply is particularly important in a facility that relies on medical and rehabilitation equipment.

For an industrial customer, the assessment ultimately comes down to the warranty. “The warranty is 10 years for C&I and 15 years for residential applications,” Ciobanu announced. The 10-year commitment provides a benchmark against which customers will be able to assess ATMOCE’s other promises as commercial installations accumulate operational experience.
