In the first half of 2026, trade relations between Romania and Germany recorded an upward trend compared to the same period of the previous year, as shown by data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

Thus, the volume of trade in goods (imports and exports) between Romania and Germany in the period January-June 2026 amounted to 21.4 billion euros, marking a slight increase of 1.3%. German exports to Romania amounted to 11.9 billion euros in the first half of the year, an increase of 4.6% compared to the same period in 2025. At the same time, Germany imported less compared to the previous year (-2.5%), the value of goods imported from Romania reaching 9.5 billion euros.

These results place Romania in 17th place in terms of German exports and 19th place in terms of imports. Overall, Romania remains in 17th place in the ranking of Germany’s trading partners.

“The positive evolution of German exports to Romania confirms once again the important role of the country in the European economy and in bilateral trade relations. Romania is among Germany’s most important trading partners, which underlines the solid potential of the local market and the high degree of integration into European value chains. For this dynamic to continue, it is essential to continue reforms and advance infrastructure and digitalization projects. It is equally important that economic policy decisions are communicated in a credible and transparent manner. At the same time, a fully functional government must be able to adopt concrete measures to revitalize the economy. For this year, we expect a slight increase in bilateral trade,” says Sebastian Metz, General Director of AHK Romania.
