Companies and institutions in Romania are reluctant to use cloud services and prefer, in most cases, to use small data centers or share the same cloud with other entities.

“In Romania there is still a reluctance to the cloud concept and consequently the growth area comes from smaller data centers used by companies or institutions”, said Adrian Ungureanu, Senior Business Consultant at Huawei, during the DigitALL 2023 conference, organized by Energynomics. He also added that the data center industry in Romania is growing compared to recent years.

In 2022, Huawei launched the first public cloud services based on its own infrastructure in a data center in Ireland. Also last year, the Chinese group created a digital power division around the worldwide success of inverters for photovoltaic installations, to which data center infrastructure was added.

“Through all the products we offer, we try to implement the twin green & digital transition. (…) It is necessary to carefully address the challenges raised by the increase in the need for data centers, to reduce the carbon footprint, to offer business agility and faster implementation times”, added Ungureanu.

Huawei has reduced the implementation time of large data centers from 18 to 9-12 months, including thanks to the new business direction aimed at saving the energy and space required for the equipment installed in the data centers, simplifying operations and monitoring the good equipment operations using artificial intelligence.

According to available data, by 2030 annual data consumption is expected to increase by approximately 36%, and data power will advance by 31% per year. “We approach the problem modularly so that we always have control down to the smallest level”, he stated.

The Huawei Group ranks fourth in the world in terms of amounts allocated to research and development. At the same time, a large part of the 200,000 employees of the Chinese company work in this sector.

The company has been present in Europe since 2000, when it built the first research center in Sweden. In 2008 it implemented the first fourth-generation mobile phone project, in 2018 it had the first 5G customer in Finland, and in 2021 it built the first large-scale rooftop photovoltaic project in Turkey.

In Romania, Huawei’s basic activity is that of a carrier, and over 90% of voice and data interactions in the country take place through the Chinese company’s equipment.

Conferința DigitALL 2023 a fost organizată de Energynomics, în parteneriat cu CIO Council și cu susținerea partenerilor noștri Eaton Electric, Huawei, NextGen, Schneider Electric, Siemens.
